The National Election Watch Sierra Leone (NEW) being a coalition of 497 (women, youth, disability, unions, religious) organisations operate primarily to observe electoral cycle and has been in operation since 2002.
In adherence to internal democracy and structural review with funding from the EU… through International IDEAS conducted district elections in it 17 operational districts. The elections which follow strict electoral procedures including declaration of vacancies, verifications, clarity of doubt, electoral rules and criteria, voting procedure, announcement of vacancies, nominations, voting, counting, announcement of result and declaration of winners.
In all the 17 operational districts of NEW, the elective positions were contested for:
- 1 District Coordinator
- 1 District Secretary
- 10 District Team members (5 female 5 male)
The Western Urban District election which climaxes the 17 district elections was held on the 24th March 2026 at the YMCA Hall, Fort Street in Freetown. With a total of 73 members organisations 40 were present and participated in the election with International IDEAS, Sierra Leone Association of Journalist, Regional Coordinator Western Area serve as observers and Charles Keif Kobai conducted the elections.
Network AID Africa contested for the District Team Member Western Urban and won.
