In her address, 𝐌𝐫𝐬. 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲 - 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞, welcomed the new recruits and described their recruitment as an important milestone in strengthening the ministry’s human resource capacity. She noted that, despite the new intake, the ministry still requires additional personnel to adequately respond to the country's growing social welfare needs.
Minister Karminty emphasised the ministry’s role as a service-delivery institution responsible for supporting and protecting some of the most vulnerable people in society.
"The Ministry of Social Welfare is a service-delivery ministry; it is the anchor and shoulder that vulnerable people should lean on," she said.
She highlighted key areas requiring social work intervention, including child protection, violence against women, substance abuse, human trafficking, irregular migration, children in conflict with the law, abandoned and abused children, disability, and family welfare concerns.
The Minister urged the new recruits to see their appointments as more than employment, encouraging them to make a meaningful contribution to society.
"Do not just seek a job; build a career and impact lives," Minister Karminty urged.
She explained that following the induction, a deployment process involving relevant ministry authorities would be undertaken to place the social workers where their skills and the needs of the ministry can be best matched. She further stressed that the ministry expects the new workforce to focus on performance, results, and quality service delivery.
