Parent Advocacy Support Group Media Engagement on International Women's Day

its Parent Advocacy Support Group which are group of illiterate women in nine districts embarked on media engagement, dialogue, and poster creation with key messages on the global theme: Give To Gain.


In commemorating and celebrating women on International Women’s Day, Network Assistance for Illiterate Persons’ Development Africa (Network AID Africa) through 

 

Three radio stations- AfriRadio 105.3fm; Rise Radio 96.3fm; Skyy Radio 105.6fm and one television SLIK TV were engaged in discussing issues and contributions of illiterate women in the home, community and the nation.


This engagement was the first ever platform giving to the panelist talking at radio stations on issues that affect illiterate women and their imminent contributions to national development that little to less recognize. " i came to Freetown at age 14, today is the first time to seat and talk at a radio station at this age" Isutu Bah

 

Key highlight from the media engagement was the neglect women face being illiterate; disrespect from elite women, non-inclusion on the high table in community program organized by organisations, structural limitation to meet with public official as a result of bureaucracy. Their intervention as peace keeper and peace makers, as tax payer, voters and community infrastructure developer and protector. They call for recognizing their contribution and to be respected for who they are as human and to be included in national discuss.

 

We as illiterate women exhibited no idea on the current constitutional amendment review provisions as well as other laws protecting women and girls. The illiterate persons’ are describe as “women as unsung community builders”.
